And so that's what explicit instruction aims to do.
Give that foundational knowledge, which then, once they've got that, then we can move towards more discovery type.
Absolutely.
So that's what I mean by that explicit through to that discovery type.
So the explicit teaching phase where directly teaching sounds,
directly teaching letters, we're teaching them how to slide those letters together, and we're using decodable books to practice those skills.
Once they've got those skills, that's when we can move into more what we call rich text.
And rich text is basically what you and I would call ordinary books.
And so once they've reached that proficiency, they've got that foundational knowledge of
all those sounds that they need to learn that's when the world's our oyster in terms of of reading material and that's when we really want to just you know dive into lots of wonderful reading and is that because again coming back to what we were talking about with
And not just words, ideas and different types of texts.
But we can't do that until we know how to read.
Right.
And so that's really what explicit instruction is all about, learning the skill so that we can become proficient readers.
And then we can do all those wonderful, you know, deep dive into language and, yeah.
Absolutely.
And I certainly saw that in intervention as well.
Some kids just need to be shown how to slide words together and off they go.
Other students just had, they knew what to do, but just hadn't learnt enough of the alphabetic code.
Other students need to work on their speed a little bit.
