Um but it was just it was a culture.
cultural thing where it was it was seen as a a really uh
commendable thing if you if you got up and just carried on and you were seen as uh tough and resilient and and all those things because we did just didn't know and there were you know I've I can remember a game was actually against North Melbourne Simo and and um I went to smother a ball from Wayne Swass and I knocked the ball out and his his boot swung through and and kicked me in the head.
And went down and and sort of blacked out, got back up again and the trainer come out and
And just instinctively I said, No, no, no, I'm all right, I'm all right, and pushed him away and then looked up and I had no idea which way we were kicking.
And I can remember thinking in my own head, I know what I'll do, I'll be smart here.
I'll look at the players and I'll look to see who's the full forward and who's the full back and that'll help me.
I looked at a player and I had no idea who he was.
I just could I didn't even know who he was.
So I had to yell out to the trainer and say, Come and take me off because
I just didn't know where I was or what I was doing.
And yet th my first thought was, get away, no, I'm good.
I can stand up so I can play.
And and that was a mentality that that endured for probably two thirds of my career, I reckon, until we started to understand the severity of what happens uh you know, short term and longer term.
Mm.

Uh I I thought that when you when the player manager and the club sign a contract, they also sign a stat deck that says there are no other uh agreements or contracts or side agreements in place.
