It's like, well, here's a book, but there's no table of contents and there's no index.
There was, but we threw it away.
So when I have argued in the past with missionaries forcing people to accept Western religion...
I say, you know, I don't care if these Christians, if these Indians become Christians and Muslims or Jews, but it should be their choice.
It shouldn't be told, you know, come to church and you'll get antibiotics and rice.
That's what I have a problem with.
And this wisdom disappears much faster than these horrors.
So I want to say both.
Ironically, let me say that this is ultimately a guilty exercise because I think it's good for all of us, but it should be done in a way which is best for the indigenous peoples themselves.
A lot of people don't get that and that it's up to them if they want to share this wisdom with us.
Sometimes they don't.
Sometimes they do.
And so this whole idea that the rainforest is teeming with these evil ethnobotanist biopirates, it's not true.
I've never met anybody from a pharmaceutical company in the Amazon in 42 years.
Never.
So I wish the pharmaceutical companies were more interested, as long as they did things in an ethical way, which certainly wasn't the deep history, but is becoming much more commonplace as people realize there's an ethical angle.
I mean, you look at
You look at psilocybin or ayahuasca, what's that worth, right?
I mean, in the number of the demand.
Couldn't a little bit of that go to the indigenous peoples who taught us those things and nurtured those mushrooms through the conquest for 500 years afterwards to make sure that that knowledge didn't disappear?
