You're not just an anthropologist.
You've got to combine a lot of different disciplines.
And that's why I'm so excited when I see some of these pieces of the puzzle may fit together, even if they don't ultimately prove true.
Now, nobody has proven anything about these ayahuasca alkaloids and the Ten Commandments, but who knows what the future will hold.
For example, one of the great mysteries of ethnobotany was the Eleusinian Mysteries.
familiar with those, ancient Greece.
That was the rite of passage.
That was their quote in an ayahuasca ceremony.
Nobody could figure it out.
But this controversial academic who was right said, I think it was alkaloids from a fungus, from the ergot fungus.
And he was dismissed as a nut and a radical.
And then much more recent research has found jawbones with ergot alkaloids in it in ceremonial centers.
And so what that means is that the ancient Greeks, the mothers and fathers, the civilization in which we live, were not only probably tripping their brains out, but it's been hypothesized that that was the birth of Christianity as well.
That Christianity is not just an offshoot of Judaism, but it's an offshoot of these ancient Greek religions where these guys were, you know, doing fun stuff.
There's a backstory to that, and it's often confused.
