And I think the issue with the Blues is they are looking to try and pick a little bit more regionally from within the region.
Ironically, the two of the better players, I think, have come from out of the region in Torrey and Barnes and obviously Sam Dowery.
um but i think there's a bigger issue here i think the issue starts at club rugby i think talking to a number of the um coaches and i do a bit of part-time work at one of the top high schools here has a very good rugby program and talking to their coaches they're just mortified by the lack of just scrummaging technique particularly in some of the coaching that's now going on within the 1a and the north harbour competition so
I think the issues are a lot, lot deeper here.
But I just wonder, too, whether Vern Cotter has just lost the changing room.
Now, if you said to Vern Cotter, we'll sign you a three-year deal, win us a championship, you'd take it every day of the week, wouldn't you?
He did it in his first year, but they've always been on a downward trajectory afterwards.
yeah so i think it is time for a coaching change um i think we are a little bit one dimensional auckland has always been about flair auckland's always been about carlos spencer playing more ad hoc rugby and i think it was uh might have been the commentators you know this is how in that last 10 minutes when they were chasing the game um against the crusaders that's when they probably played at their best and so sort of we've got to get back to that but look in saying that jamie i think when you do look at tori and barnes you look at molokai rampling you do look at
And you look at Anton Segner, and I like Eli Oden Ryan, this young hooker, the son of league player Lee Oden Ryan.
I think there's, and then you throw Darry in there, you throw Josh Berry in there.
I think there's a really nice sort of baby blacks look about the Blues, if I can use that terminology.
My problem is, where are our backs?
Who's the future midfield combination for the Blues?
Who's our next first 5-8?
You've got Caleb Clarke, you've got Zan Sullivan, but outside of that, man, boy, we are thin on the ground.
So, Jamie, where's the succession planning, though?
I mean, you look at the Crusaders, they lose players and there just seems to be this seamless integration of young talent coming through.
You know, how do you let a guy like Lucas Casey, who's part of your under-18 programme, go?
You know, in the past, you know, we've seen guys like Gudju head down to Christchurch.
We've seen so many players get outside of the Auckland region and thrive.
