A lot of Lacey's good car control at Ferrari, when the Ferrari got better relatively, was it was a bit of a benign handling car at times.
He could do some of that stuff because he did have that confidence, even though the car didn't have the outright performance.
It gave him confidence for a lot of 95.
So, yeah, twitchy, pointy Schumacher car cannot be rescued by someone just getting a bit elbowsy with how they drive.
I think the issue here is that, yes, Flavia was wrong to do it the way he did, because I don't think that was a tactic that was going to motivate anybody particularly successfully.
But he was right that this was broken already.
And you look at the first few races, it's not that this is like, oh, it's a little bit of transition time away.
The time gaps are enormous.
Even by mid-90s standards, Benetton is miles off the pace.
It's really vulnerable to improving McLarens, even Jordans in qualifying.
Even when they're getting near the podium, there's gulfs in race time.
Ferrari with the Schumacher upgrade is right between them suddenly.
This is a team...
that came into this season expecting a title fight.
Williamson's a bit more serene in 96 than it was in 95, in terms of operations, reliability, and Damon Hill performance.
But still, Benetton's performance is purely bad.
Alassie's mistakes are bad.
One thing that really sticks with me from the Imola weekend is Nigel Roebuck's Autosport Magazine report had this section called Alassie Update, where every five pars, he'd mention what Alassie just crashed into or where he'd spun.
And that's the response to Flavio's motivational talk.
It's obvious by Imola, this won't work.
