No, not really, and I thought if I did, I have a more straightforward idea for a literal sequel, which I am planning to write at some point when it forms, which kind of reverses Nora and Mrs. Alm's situation, because at the end of The Midnight Library, we leave Mrs. Alm at the end of her life, and that gives an opportunity to sort of reverse it, so Mrs. Alm slipping in and looking at her life, and then Nora could be her guide,

So I always thought that would have a great symmetry to it.

So there's that idea.

And this one, it kind of happened naturally.

Like it's a very much a standalone novel that just happened in the drafts to keep on speaking to the Midnight Library, like thematically about regret and what ifs and all of that.

And I like the idea, like Midnight Library sort of goes this, it goes out sideways.

And the Midnight Train is looking at a life forwards and back on the train track.

as soon as i had the idea from the train i thought about all the metaphors about being on the right track and being sidetracked and the end of the line and chugging along and all these life as train metaphors i thought yeah what if when our life flashes before our eyes it doesn't feel like this smooth continuous journey it feels like we sort of stop off at places because that's to me how memory works there's certain times we really remember and other times that sort of speed by

So I thought the train was the perfect way to sort of talk about memory and life.

I think I'd like them to have that sense of perspective about the present.

When we get to the end of our life and look back, what is the life we see?

And we'll be nostalgic about it, but how do we get that sense of nostalgia about the present?
