Well, I did a master's in English literature at Leeds University, and I was commuting from Hull.
And so my brain was filled with all these sort of French critical theorists and all this very intellectual stuff.
And I was going a little bit insane.
It's about over-analysing everything until it's not there anymore.
It's the sort of deconstruction was the sort of theory.
Well, again, people say it casually, but I felt like I couldn't switch off.
Like I had very fast thoughts.
Sleeping was difficult.
Relaxing was impossible.
Unless I drank.
And so...
And I was very... You know, so I was wanting to escape.
That was a big thing.
Up until the age of 24, when I had a full-blown breakdown, that was the theme of my life.
Always trying to escape.
So Andrea provided some kind of escape, but there was this other kind of escape, which was very... You know, we would definitely not still be here if I'd have never had a breakdown.
Because...
As with the teenage arrest, I think without the breakdown, I kind of, in those days, especially not understanding my own mind, I always needed to hit a barrier to stop.
Well, in my case, you know, it's not a medical term, breakdown, but that is definitely how it felt to me.
It felt like a breaking down.
