Suddenly it's like, well, I can do that because I've done the most impossible thing in staying alive.
So actually getting a book deal, it doesn't matter how many rejections I get.

Did Andrea ever think of leaving you?
Lots of times.
She packed her bags on more than one occasion.
I mean, literally packed her bags.
Literally, when we were still living in Leeds, I can picture the suitcases everywhere.
And she was packing.
And it was just because she felt like... She got frustrated because she thought I wasn't trying and that I was wallowing.
And it was all true.
I mean, there's a great, you know...
The trouble is with mental illness is that it's so inward looking.
It's very hard when you're in the throes of it to be a good partner because you are so literally wrapped up in yourself.
And so the way out is always...
through other people, other things finding just the spark of curiosity in something outside of yourself a passion that's as big or could be as big as the fear you're feeling and to sort of supplement all that darkness with lightness
You know, I always think, and I'm saying this because it's you and I know you've written a book on the subject, but I always think of A.A.
Milne and Hundred Acre Wood and that being his sort of like imaginative space because he'd obviously known a lot of darkness.
