And you know, I was focusing on the serving side, he was focusing on the inventing side.

So we were sort of on the same team, but we were focused on different areas.

But like this was sort of the nature of our collaborations over the years.

We were collaborating sort of in spite of having organizational separation and like punching holes through the the silos across teams and and finding ways to to build cool, useful

stuff for users sort of in spite of some of that organizational friction.

So interestingly, uh almost exactly five years ago to the day, I think it was I think tomorrow will be five years from when I texted Dan.

I was like, have you thought about starting a company?

Uh so Dan was trying to get me to come back to Google to help solve this problem.

He and Kim had started the Google open source security team and you know he was trying to get me to come back to um

You know, join that and help solve those problems because a lot of them we'd thought deeply about as part of these like Google on Google efforts, as well as other things.

And so, you know, Google was interested in start solving this problem before everyone was interested in solving this problem, really for selfish reasons, right?

Like I not entirely selfish, right?

They have pretty broad open source consumption and they recognize that after hardening a lot of their own stuff.

That it was one of their big areas of exposure.

And so they were starting to invest, even when, you know, before it was cool, in trying to solve this problem.

But we'd experienced trying to motivate and build things like this at Google before.

And we knew that it was incredibly hard, even if we were right.

So, one example I like to point out is the Google distrolless images, which underpinned GKE and countless other CNCF projects.

Projects now, but it's almost it's effectively never been a funded Google project.
