It's been sort of maintained by volunteers 20% time, whatever you want to call it, but it never really had funding from Google.

Huge numbers of people use Kaniko to do Docker file builds, but like it was never part of any sort of Google product.
And so Google recently archived it.
And I was like, oh God, that's that's bad.
Like so many people use this.
It's in GitLab's documentation for how to do Docker file builds with GitLab CI.
And so it was one of the things that led to us starting the Ameritas.
program where we sort of act as maintainer of last resort for projects that like folks use that every so often there's a CVE that needs to be patched in them, but the upstream has sort of gone away.
And obviously Kanico is near and dear to us.
So we we took it on.
So I I think another interesting thing was sort of a fun fact is that when SolarWinds was trying to dig itself out of their massive breach that overnight made everyone care, a lot of the tools they reach
for were some of the ones that we had been building up over the years.
Things like, you know, Tekton, things like Sig Store, which uh my co-founders Dan and Kim had started.
But frankly it wasn't easy enough to put together a lot of these pieces.
And so we started a company to fix that.
