And I imagine if someone were to ask Jesse Marsh quite honestly, he would not have played Alphonso Davies in that game because that's the game that Alphonso Davies tore his ACL.
It certainly wasn't a game that was all that relevant initially.
in the long-term perspective of where Canada ended up going in the World Cup.
But Marsh is a competitor, he made that choice, and it led to this whole situation.
Because the other side of it is this, Alphonso Davies is also someone who's making a lucrative amount of money with Bayern Munich, who are now looking to hedge their bets, and they've just brought in a couple of players who could be challenging Alphonso Davies for his spot.
But on the flip side also, too, if you're the captain of a country, is it enough for you to come and only play 15, 16 minutes at a home World Cup?
That is not a personal attack on Alphonso Davies.
That kind of accountability, that kind of conversation is important.
Because it's what every other nation does.
When they cover a World Cup, everyone, every player comes under the microscope.
Because if you are the 24 to 26 that wear a national badge on the World Cup stage, this is part of the conversation.
Do I push back against some of those about, you know, ideas and conversations and arguments about Alphonso Davies' patriotism?
I know he loves playing for Canada.
I have watched him love playing for Canada.
But the levels of what took place from the moment he tore his ACL all the way to here is a great education point for all of us to understand the tensions between clubs and country.
The fact that he is a player and a commodity for Bayern Munich while also being the captain of a country and, by the way, also someone who has been quite visible in terms of marketing and advertisement.
So when we're talking about accountability, your point, Dave, it's more about now engaging ourselves in a level of conversation that happens with players
football, soccer, journalism all over the world.
he will do, I imagine, again, what he did with the side that went to Qatar.
He will be ruthless.
