I was covering them as a young 18, 17 year old.
So yeah, it sort of flowed on from there.
It wasn't even, they just rang me and said, I did not, I did an assignment on, um, and it went to the local paper and the journal, John McDonald rang me and said, um, I can't pay you, but do you want to cover the lower grades for the paper for free?
And I was like, go to the games and cover it.
And I did that for 12 months, just every weekend covering Jersey flag, Harold Matts, SG ball, reserve grade.
And then,
12 months later, there was a cadetship at the Fairfield Champion and I got that.
Yeah, I appreciate what you said.
Like, I don't know, I just, I think you learn that as, I don't think, you learn it as a person, like what kind of person you want to be.
And I feel like in journalism, everyone thinks, oh, how do you get information?
Well,
simple.
People need to trust you.
You need to build relationships.
And if people can't trust you, you don't get information.
And part of that is not being someone who's just using the other person for information.
There is the exchange of information.
Like a lot of the people that you're referring to, it's a two-way street.
They want to know what you know as much as you asking them.
But also the ability to then know, okay, well, I'm not going to write that because it's going to burn my relationship with that person.
