And to build trust

You can take four or five years to build that trust, but you can burn it overnight.

And that's one thing I've always prided myself on when it comes to media is making sure you do the right thing by people.

Not everyone's going to like what you write.

Not everyone's going to agree, but as long as you've given everyone the opportunity.

And you've done your due diligence to make sure what you're writing is correct.

And I feel most times that hopefully I did do that.

I know not everyone will like me, but relationships, everything.

And it's not about being book smart in journalism.

I honestly mean that because you just have to, it's just street smarts, common sense, relationships.

That's all it is.

And if you are able to form that trust with someone, you need to keep it.

Yeah, I think my dad and mom definitely big on the person that you are.

As I said, if I was going to rely on my education or my ability to wow people with my knowledge of the world, that wasn't going to happen.

Just be real.

Be someone who people wanted to hang around.

It's hard.

Your first five years in media...

you constantly feel like you've got no contacts, you've got no connections to the game because everyone's already established.

But I made a decision pretty young in media that I was going to then begin to talk to everyone that didn't have relationships.
