You have to understand what that guy's capable of, and you have to put him in the spots that he fits so he can kind of gain confidence and conviction in what he's doing.
And I think Donnie, especially with the bullpen last year, really impressed me.
And you can even talk about the defense, how fundamentally sound the shift there.
So guys stopped trying to make plays that they maybe can't make, but they anticipated โ
to areas that they'd never anticipated before because of the trust and the communication.
But the bullpen last year for me really showed how good the communication was because every guy was prepared and they would be put in very awkward and different situations.
So Donnie being able to do that and trust his gut to put these guys in the right place at the right time.
And then also if he sees pitching-wise a guy going well, if you watch the dugout, you'll see him walk over to the pitching guys, but also some of the players.
and kind of get a feel of what they see to clarify and affirm what he sees.
And that's so important because sometimes you just want to make sure, am I seeing this right?
And, you know, you want to ride those good days and you want to help them through those bad days.
And I think he's going to do a great job of that.
It's been a lot of fun, man.
And I think, you know, you've got a bad rap โ
maybe got a little emotional, but this guy's in love with the game, and he has a lot more that he wants to do in it, and I think that's incredible.
It's hard to have that hunger and that passion to want to keep going after 17, 18 years, and you're 39 with five kids.
You know, you think about that, and you swallow that, and you're like, man, that's a tough pill to have this hunger, but it is.
It's probably the most hungry I've seen him in years.
He looks great.
He obviously lost a lot of weight last year and started moving better.
