There are people who care very deeply about climate change who would frankly not want to be in the same room as someone like me.

I mean, obviously what's going on now with this war and the fuel crisis, is there anything you'd do?

What would you do if you were still the CEO?

Yeah, so I'm somewhat limited in what I do know.

But I think the really important thing is to continue to give New Zealanders confidence that fuel supply is strong.

And I think the government do that on behalf of the industry.

But I think there's a role for certainly a large company like Z to be reassuring people appropriately that actually, although prices have gone through the roof, there is still supply availability.

I think doing whatever you can to help your customers find ways to reduce, frankly, the use of your products, whether that be like driving tips at one level.

But there's also other things you can do through the use of technology to help people reduce it because it's just – you think about it, it's entirely just – at one level, it feels like it's a discretionary expense, particularly for a business.

You know, we've got to pay our people, but everything else maybe we can have some choice about.

But many businesses don't have that much of a choice about how far they travel or anything like that.

So I think anything you can do to reduce the cost or the impact of these high prices is helpful.

I think the other thing that often gets forgotten is that businesses typically think about the operating costs.

You know, I drive trucks and vans and cars, and therefore that's an expense to me.

I think you've got to think also about your employees.

To your employee, it's a cost that they otherwise can't avoid.

So does that mean you allow people to do more work from home, you do things to encourage public transport use, find some way to build an app really quickly to enable carpooling amongst the staff?

I think there are things that you've got to bear in mind as a business leader about both the cost of fuel to your business as well as what it means for your people.
