I mean, I had an 80-year-old bloke come up to me in a hotel in Christchurch in the lobby and just say, hey, thanks for doing all the work that you do.

You convinced me to put solar on my roof, and I'd like to invite you to my 105th birthday party because I need to live that long in order for my solar to get a complete capital return on my solar, I guess, or complete returns on the solar, which might be four or five times the complete capital return.

And I just thought that was so funny.

And his wife was telling me that he just won't shut up about solar now.

And it's given him a whole new lease on life.

And I think that's really cool.

Yeah, so first of all, we're talking about six to seven years for a complete capital return when it's financed on your mortgage at 5.5%, right?

So if you can get access to one of those green loans and get 1% for three years, or I think Westpac's like 0% for five years or whatever it might be, the chances are it's probably worthwhile unless you're thinking of moving in the next couple of years.

Now, what we've seen is some pretty good data come out of Australia now suggesting that fully electric homes are worth about 2%, 2.5% more than homes that still have...

gas in the home or don't have solar on the roof, which is really interesting.

And we have seen some data come out in New Zealand now suggesting about a 1% improvement in home values.

So the chances are you'll probably get it back because when you think about any value of a property or a business or whatever it might be, the cheaper that it is to operate that business or the cheaper it is to live in that home, the more valuable it is actually going to be.

But it's not really completely ratified in New Zealand yet, although we are starting to see trends that that is the case.

Well, so the Australians have nearly 40% residential rooftop solar penetration.

So you'd think at that point they'd probably hit that in Australia.

And, you know, Australia has some of the cheapest energy prices in the world if you count for the unit economics of rooftop solar on those houses, right?

I don't think we're there in New Zealand yet, but I think we're going to get there.

Like the Australians think that 80% of their rooftops will have solar on the roof by 2050, right?

And I reckon we're going to catch up because we deserve just the same level of cost savings as the Australians have got.

But they just went down the path of subsidising solar on rooftops, right, which kicked off a massive industry.
