So that's kind of the pathway that we're looking at.

That results in 11 cents a kilowatt hour.

That is how you'll generate.

Now, if you're in a really, really sunny area in New Zealand, you might scrape 10 or 9 cents a kilowatt hour.

And if you're in a really shady area, maybe with some extra costs associated with putting the solar on your roof because of the complexity of the rooftop, you might be more like 13, 14 cents a kilowatt hour, right?

That's important to understand.

But at the same time, take into account that you're probably paying 30, 35 cents from the grid.

So the narrative doesn't shift too much, right?

It does shift a little bit, but it's really making sure that you get a good deal on your solar installation is the first step.

And then when you do that, you can start to work out, okay, well, what are the costs compared to how I currently use electricity?

And you'll be able to work out from there if you don't change how much electricity you use, what the payback is going to be.

You can look at your power bills.

You can see how much you've done every month, get 12 months of power bills, figure out what the payback period is.

However, when you look at things like diesel or petrol, diesel's probably somewhere in the vicinity of $1, $1.50 a kilowatt hour, right?

So it's a tenth of the price.

So if you look at the amount of diesel that you consume or the amount of petrol that you consume, you can begin to work out what that payback period is if you were to upgrade to an electric vehicle.

And the same thing with hot water.

So it is actually pretty straightforward.

The nuance of it all is every family is slightly different.
