Hey, Brad's out this week, so I got you covered in the meantime.
Headed into the weekend, we started learning about this new round of strikes that U.S.
forces were reportedly planning on Iran.
Those strikes, two U.S.
officials tell ABC, would have targeted Iranian energy infrastructure and would have been a major escalation in the war.
Now, I'm using terms like would have a lot here because late Saturday night, we saw a major about face from President Trump.
He called off those strikes, writing in a social media post that he's agreed to cancel the attack, subject to being able to rapidly make a deal.
Let's bring in ABC's Alex Perchet, who's been tracking all this for us.
So, Alex, is this it?
Do we have a deal now?
Mike, honestly, your guess is as good as mine.
And as you mentioned there, Alex, we've been down this road before where it seems like both sides are kind of coming together and they might have sort of the outline of a deal, but they're actually pretty far apart on some of the fundamentals, as it turns out.
So what are we actually hearing from the Iranians right now?
What are the other players in this drama saying?
And again, that seems like the key question here that a lot of people who are outside of this negotiation are asking.
Iran says the Strait of Hormuz cannot go back to the way it was before the war started.
But the president says one of the key sticking points here is that the Strait of Hormuz is open, that it is ostensibly what it was before February.
