Normally when we talk about wildfires, we think about California.

In recent years, we've seen fires devastate communities across that state as far south as Los Angeles.

And if you're on the East Coast, fires in Canada fill the skies with particulates casting a haze over Philadelphia, New York and Boston.

Well, this weekend, the biggest challenge facing emergency crews was in an entirely different part of the country, the Pacific Northwest.

Fire advisories went up Saturday and continued through the weekend with at least 5,000 acres scorched and hundreds of buildings destroyed.

The biggest fire danger right now is in Washington state.

And that's where we find ABC's Alex Stone, who's in Spokane.
