I get home to my office, sit down, look at the number, take a breath, and dial.

And when he answers, he's surprised at who I am and where I've come from, seemingly out of the blue.

Literally, minutes later, I'm in my car again, driving to what could be the most important meeting of this case and my life.

When I arrive, my mic is rolling, but when I ask him if it's okay to record our conversation, he tells me to turn it off.

From now on, I will refer to this man as Sam.

And when we sit down on opposite sides of a small table in a side room, I sense his mood has shifted since we spoke on the phone.

First impressions are that he's lived a tough life, and from what I've been told, he's been in and out of prison over the years for various crimes, including assault.

But I'm not getting the feeling that he's dangerous.

Instead, I quickly realize that he agreed to meet me in person because he wants to know who the fuck I am and why I'm asking these questions.

He seems rattled by what I know and the questions I'm asking.

He's very defensive and tells me, no, I never said that to her.

I never saw what she's saying.

It seems my hopes of coming here today and perhaps finding that smoking gun and Heidi have been dashed with those words.

But then he seems to soften just ever so slightly and says I did see that David Turner though.

Yeah, he showed up around 2010 saying he was looking for something but it didn't sit right with me at the time.

I don't know what he was looking for that day

He then pauses and looks at me.

There is a skeleton out there though, eh?

He says.
