Like Sandy Koufax never once in his life pitched in a playoff game that was not a World Series game.
And I think if you think about how the playoffs have expanded, I mean, just look at the Blue Jays and Dodgers last year, right?
These teams played into November.
I think there's maybe a little bit of what's going on with the Jays this year in terms of a hangover.
We're just that's a really, really long season.
And if you think you're going to be in October, you're going to want to have your horses available because they're just going to have to throw more pitches over more weeks than a lot of these historical guys did.
And I know the pushback there is, well, those guys threw 300 innings in the regular season first, which is fair.
But remember, pitchers weren't batting in the NL.
It's a different sport then.
I don't really think you can compare those two things.
Yeah, I think it's two things.
I think part of it is that he and the Jays have done a good job of some secondary pitches.
You know, he talked a lot about improving the changeup because for a long time he was not exactly a two-pitch pitcher, but mostly, right, four-seamer and slider.
And he's added some of those secondary pitches, which is great.
I think that's really helped him.
I also just think he's been underappreciated over the years.
You know, I can't remember exactly what I said, but I think he was the only guy with like five straight 200 strikeout seasons or something like that entering the year.
And Padres fans didn't like him, which I've learned for two reasons.
One is because they're just putting too much emphasis on ERA, which we know is not the most predictive pitcher stat.
The second thing is in the 2024 playoffs, he went out and pitched against the Dodgers and he didn't do very well.
