But, like you said, if the underlying principles behind a ritual's potency are valid, then in theory we should be able to observe at least some degree of effectiveness through partial applications of those same principles.
Now, if only we had even one of the elements given in any of the rituals.
What about holy symbols?
The cross is unlikely to have any effect on this creature, as it did not emerge as a symbol of purity and therefore obeying to wickedness until thousands of years after the foundational elements of Mephitica had already been established.
And given what we now know, those ancient doctrines seem to lie far closer to the truth than anything that followed.
