I fell off a stage.

That was my workplace accident when I was doing a speech.

And my mom used to say like, as crazy as this sounds, she said, I feel like the angels pushed you off the stage.

I don't know how else we would have gotten you out of the situation.

That's how kind of stuck we all felt about it.

They didn't know how to get me out because I was so in this mindset that like this was my only opportunity.

As a disabled woman growing up knowing that 80% of disabled people are unemployed, that was a really terrifying statistic to live with.

So for me, I was very much in this mindset of like, well, I'm just lucky to have a job and a job that gives me purpose.

So I need to hold on for dear life to this because I might not get another opportunity ever again.

So I think my mom and dad really felt like they didn't know how they were going to get me out of the situation.

But they also felt like at this point, the situation was very unhealthy.

And within the organization, there would be like a lot of comparisons and phrases thrown around a lot.

Like it's harder to get a job with us than it is to get into Harvard University.

So like all of this phrasing to make it sound exclusive and like, you're very lucky.

And when my assistant left,

They had to hire somebody new in my second year.

And they specifically hired the person that my mom, myself, and my assistant had said not to, which felt like a control tactic to hire somebody who I said I'm not comfortable with when we are not just flying all over the world together.

We were sleeping in the same hotel rooms.

And I was fully reliant on her as my only support on the road to help me with getting food, to help me with checking my makeup in the morning, to help me with getting my guide dog to the bathroom.

Like she was my everything.
