So to hire the person that we all said wasn't a good fit for the role, but I learned that she had been in the club her whole childhood, had applied for something like over 10 jobs at the organization and had driven halfway across the country for the job interview.

So I believe that they hired her not because she was a good fit for the role, but because she was their perfect kind of candidate who was so in love with the organization and their ideology that it was kind of like an easy person to slot into the organization.

Well, at least with me, I'll never forget being told very early on in my employment that they wanted me to be able to get up on stage and essentially say that like me being blind wasn't as bad as what these kids are dealing with.

And that I don't need to be cured.

I'm okay as I am.

We need to focus on supporting kids in underprivileged circumstances around the world.

And that's where our support needs to be.

I was only four years into my life as a blind person.

And to be honest, like, well, yes, today I can say that as a 32-year-old who's healed and done a lot of work on self-acceptance.

At 18, I wasn't ready to say that, but I felt like I had to.

And as a speaker for them and a new kind of face of the organization, I was very trained.

My voice was very curated.

And I've been public speaking since I was five years old.

I have my own style.

If you said to me, like, what do you think is one of your biggest talents?

I would say motivational speaking or public speaking.

Like, I think that's something that not only have I done since I was five years old and I've trained in it, but I just have like a natural ability.

And so my parents were so sad to see my natural voice.

and talent curated to be like kind of like a clone of their style as speakers.

I remember within my first month of working there being brought into the office and it was just me and the guy who ran the organization, my boss.
