I think over the course of the campaign, one of the things that was really, frankly, inspiring to see is I think we have so little grace in our politics and so little room for nuance that
And it felt like this opened up a lot of those conversations.
You saw people just extend such grace and open up their hearts and be willing to hope and believe in not just that we could change our politics, but that people could change.
And I think that was something we needed.
And I don't want to lose that.
I don't want people's lesson from this to be that there should never be room for grace.
And I think that there are a lot of people who've made mistakes or said controversial things
who we want to win the support of, who we need to earn the trust of.
But I also think I was wrong.
And not to say that everyone who has said controversial things on Reddit would then have things like this come out.
I don't think that's the case.
But it's to say that there's a higher risk there of it happening when there are things like that, and there's too much at stake.
And there are so many people who don't have that potential liability.
And it's the United States Senate.
I want to go back to the beginning of it.
The initial kind of
factor that led to the broader efforts of recruitment in Maine was a lot of angst around Janet Mills being the presumptive nominee.
You know, this was someone who was polling as one of the least popular governors in the country, who would have been the oldest freshman member of the United States Senate in Senate history, and who had made a lot of enemies out of key
components of Maine, labor unions, tribes, and a network of us kind of connected with different local folks, labor leaders, organization leaders, with a vision of recruitment.
And I think one of the important factors in that is, you know, there's been a lot of criticism, obviously, around it.
