Taking it personally means...

You look at the behavior that they just did, that they chose to do.

You look at the words that they just chose to say.

And you say, you said that to me.

That hurt me.

You did that to me.

That made me feel betrayed.

That's what taking it personally means.

So you separate those two.

So when someone that you love cheats on you.

Set aside the story that says, I caused this for myself.

There's enough people out there who are going to blame you for your partner cheating on you and say, well, you never wore makeup.

You never did this.

You never did that.

You always complained.

Don't be one of those people for yourself.

Be the one who actually sees your story and your experience and says,

I actually don't believe that being in a relationship with someone means that I always have to be fun and pretend like I don't care about things and just, I'm not going to step into that.

I'm going to say that this bond that me and my partner had, it was on a foundation of trust and loyalty and being there for each other and never hurting each other in that way.

And my partner just did something to hurt me in that way.
