In her defense, even if she tried to exert some sort of control over me, she wasn't going to have it.

Even physically, I was probably bigger than her at the time, and I wasn't scared of her at all.

I think the last time she tried to whack me,

And I think that was mum's way of trying to make sure that she had eyes on us or something, but still heavily on the bazaar at 15, 16 years old.

Yeah, we've always been close.

We definitely had a bit of drama, even through that period.

I think for both of us, we're just, in our early teens, just trying to cope with all the things, bearing witness to a fair bit of shit that I don't think we probably should have a bit of.

And not hard out, not every weekend, but, you know, growing up, we did witness a bit of violence, a lot of alcohol, heaps of drugs, all that sort of stuff.

So, yeah.

We were probably dealing with that in our own ways, not necessarily together at that point, but where I had my circles and the people that I was running with, she had the same.

Like I say, one of the beautiful things about Tokoroa was those circles that we were running in were beautiful people.

For both of us, we lent a lot on our friends' families.

I don't know if mum kicked me out or I ran away, but I wasn't at home anyway.

And I was, you know, staying at my mate Sean's house and then I went out to Zane's and, you know, just at 14, I think I was, stayed with my boss for a couple of weeks who I was milking cows for, milking cows to pay him a bit of board and that sort of stuff.

So it was, yeah, going pretty rogue.
