I was like, I've got to make this work come hell or high water.

Like I've got something to prove.

And so, you know, in between those first five years, I mean –

In that period of that first five years, my daughter was born in 2017.

I don't really glaze over that period.

I reached full burnout too during that time.

I was working so hard because I thought that the story that I told myself was that my superpower, if I was going to be young and coming into this industry of kind of old dogs, for want of a better term,

I needed to have a superpower.

And it wasn't going to be that I was the most experienced business person.

It wasn't going to be anything like that.

But I was like, in my head, I was like, if I can work harder than anyone else in the industry, then that'll be my superpower.

And so I did.

I got to the point where... But again, this was driven by my ego.

It was like, I wanted to be the best because I wanted to be the man.

But...

You know, working till, you know, one, two, three, sometimes four o'clock in the morning, going from an office that we had on Tarapa Strait and going home via the Pukere McDonald's and getting a quarter pounder at like two, three, four in the morning, getting home, alarm goes off at quarter to six, getting up and going again.

And I did that for ages.

I was like, I'm the hardest working builder.

This will work.

I've got to make this work.
