So if we take like an ASX 200 index tracker,
When people are selling their ETF holding or they're buying into it, the fund itself has to buy and sell shares within the ETF.
So that's where on the member statement you'll see all sorts of stuff where there's income amounts.
So the top 200 ASX holdings are paying dividends to Vanguard, for instance, and then Vanguard are repaying those to you in distributions.
They might be buying and selling parts of it.
So there's capital gains within the fund.
So they pass them on to you as well.
And then if you're in an ETF that owns foreign holdings, they might be getting foreign income into the fund.
So then they pass on that piece of foreign income tax to you.
So it gets really complicated.
So all those events happening get passed on to you.
