And for those who don't know, can you explain the premise?
There's a phrase you used, biological twilight, which is one of the more distressing things I've read at half past one in the morning in my life.
But this is a follow-up of sorts, I suppose, to your successful nuclear war scenario.
So can you tell us a little, to sort of set the context, how did you come to this novel form of, I'm calling it speculative nonfiction.
I don't know what you call it.
And how did you reach that as a format?
And, oh God, what drew you in the first place to civilization ending threats as a topic?
obviously your journalism career has presumably brought you into connections and a network of people to speak to.
But with stuff like this, I'm assuming it can be difficult to get interviews and difficult to get candid information because it cleaves so close to national security interests and things.
And I don't know anything about, I'm not that kind of journalist, but has it been a struggle to kind of wade through that particular mire and get these two books over the line?
Yeah, because you don't half get some information in your sources.
I mean, as I said, information that I perhaps wish I hadn't read.
But you're quite clear in both the afterword and indeed in the title of the book itself that this is a scenario.
You know, it's one of a multiplicity of possible scenarios.
But you have to craft it.
You have to direct it and shape it, this speculative nonfiction play out of –
Terrible things.
So how do you do that?
