podcast
To use the line from Caelan Dorris in the press conference on Friday night, Leo Cullen's Leinster through and through.
Yeah, and as I said, there's a long list of suitors who will probably be in line to replace him.
Jake, it's funny, one of the things that's been mentioned a few places over the last couple of days is the comparison between when Leo Cullen took on the job of head coach and now that he's leaving.
when he took it on initially, he was an interim head coach and he was made permanent head coach really because there weren't any viable candidates.
There weren't any standout candidates there that Leinster wanted to go for.
And 12 years later, he's going to be leaving and you could fill three or four books with the list of names that are going to want that job.
Will you be dusting off your CV, throwing your name into the hat?
Have to throw that question in, you know?
Yeah, for sure.
Who wouldn't be interested in it, Bernie?
Yeah, I think short of Toulouse or Bordeaux, it is the coaching job out there that anyone would want.
What do you make of the timing of it?
Because the timing is interesting, a full 12 months out from when Leo will depart.
There's obviously the risk involved that you end up in a lame duck scenario at some stage over the course of the season.
But I suppose, is that offset by giving yourself so much time to go out and plan and pick your person?
like 2027 is a good time to be going to the market when you think of the World Cup and people judging their World Cup cycles and things like that and also then the element that it's out there now we don't have to be asked people aren't going to be asking Leo about this every second week every time they have a difficult day are you still the man to do this job the
there's a lot to weigh up in there.
What do you think of the timing of it?
12 years Jake obviously before we go like that's a long year for anyone to be in a in a head coach a single head coach position there be some people who think maybe Leo is staying a year or two too late too long there are others who'd nearly want to give him another couple of years beyond this contract as a coach how difficult is it to to pick the right time to you know to realize okay now is the moment to step aside
A lot of musical chairs to come over the next few months, isn't there?
