And the context has to carry from a transactional self-serve environment to an emotional environment where you're engaging with a banker.
And I think the real business model failure of
trying to kind of adapt to this world is just taking a cost to serve mindset to decide who gets to interact with the human and who doesn't versus making it a deliberate choice around the value of the interaction and the potential overall value of the relationship.
And I think that's going to be a real challenge
should be a real strategic focus for banks because I think the mass market retail consumer is going to have a plethora of choices as to your point earlier, where they can house their deposits, where they look to for financial advice, et cetera.
And so that human interaction and contextual interaction becomes a real differentiator to me.
Yeah, I think, I mean, looking 25 years out, you take some of those themes, right?
Embedded finance will move or could move the engagement layer or customer interaction layer away from the bank.
I think data portability and open banking could potentially break or dilute the data and insights advantage a bank may have.
You mentioned like some of the digital asset rails, they'll create more payment options, money movement options outside the traditional bank's walls.
And I think regulation will be the wrapper around it.
But I think one thing where if the bank gets right, it's a combination of how they use AI as a growth lever.
how they think about leveraging the balance sheet, leveraging the data, and leveraging the distribution model, both physical and digital, becomes kind of the sweet spot.
So for example, how are you using AI to predict what a customer needs before they potentially even realize it?
How are you then also making a conscious decision and a contextual decision to say, we should just prompt or nudge the customer in the app versus actually we need the bankers to call them because it looks like they just got married and they may want to buy a house.
So there's a discussion around a mortgage.
And I think
the legacy and heritage bank brands have a significant advantage over many of the non-banks or the fintech disruptors because of the data, because of the regulated balance sheet, and because of the distribution model.
And I think it's a combination of harnessing all that and using the power of kind of predictive analytics and AI to provide the right insights to the customer and to the bank at the right moments.
series was aimed at the US retail banking market.
