And I think when you look at the competitive landscape, it's fairly unique just in terms of just how concentrated it is, the number of banks, the number of credit unions, the number of non-bank lenders and other depository institutions.
And I think we've seen already, if you just rewind a decade, like there's been serious
and mass industry kind of consolidation, whether that's been larger players looking at inorganic growth, whether that's just been mergers of equals because smaller players just need to survive.
And I think we'll continue to see it.
And I think your point around readiness is really key.
Consumer expectations are really shaped not by banking, but the experiences, the insights, the hyper-personalization they get in adjacent industries.
And more and more, there's a degree of frustration and friction in banking in terms of, even in this day and age, why is it so difficult to just fully onboard via an app?
Why, to my comment earlier, why does my bank tell me so little or doesn't give me proactive prompts and guidance around how I manage and move my money when they have so much data around me?
And I think new entrants will continue to set that bar around engagement and insight far higher than banks maybe can do today.
So there will be a consolidation, those who are not ready, those who are just consolidating to survive.
And then I think we could see some fairly aggressive acquisition where you have non-bank entrants or fintech entrants who don't necessarily have a charter just go out and acquire a regional bank as an easier way to enter the market.
And it's already happening.
Yeah, it sure is.
You know, the legacy bank and credit union branch should take note.
But what I think on the flip side for the consumer base, you know, your average mass market American retail banking customer, you'll create a lot more options.
And I think the quality of product and service will dramatically increase.
I really, really believe that.
I completely agree.
I think size may determine the discretionary spend that you can pull out of your annual budget and just put for kind of longer term big bets.
But size doesn't necessarily mean you can innovate and you can disrupt your business model and your organisation model and your culture quickly.
