So Simon's suggestion to myself, Ben Johnston, another entrepreneur in Brisbane, and Scott McKay, who has since passed away but was part of the founding group of the Elephants, was let's get together once a quarter, let's tell each other who we want to be in life, and let's hold each other accountable to that vision.
And so I wrote a post in 2013 where I outlined exactly what the elephants is and 10 years on it's still connecting with people.
And I got a Twitter DM from someone I'd never met just last week saying I started my own elephants group and it's changed my life.
And it's just weird.
Sometimes you write things and you're just telling, sharing something that you did that you've been doing for many years.
So it doesn't seem that remarkable to you, but for it to be here 10 years on and for it still to be connecting with people is really powerful.
And it's just a really simple idea of assemble a group of three of you.
It's not your best friends, but it's the friends you can trust the most.
Tell them who you want to be, be vulnerable with them and then have them help you reflect back.
Are you,
You know, quarter on quarter on quarter, are you really becoming that person?
Are you getting closer to that person or getting further away?
And so the post, it's called The Elephant, sets out in quite a lot of detail how we do that.
And it's, yeah, been probably the greatest sort of personal, having an elephants group has been the greatest personal kind of change that I've experienced.
And I started it, I'm 39 now, so it's been 16 years.
I had the first elephants group when I moved to the US, I started a new elephants group.
Right now I don't have an elephants group, but I kind of run my own.
And we talked about this a bit before the call, which is,
how important it is as a business owner to send monthly updates to your investors.
