After another five or so minutes, the plane had completed its taxi, and the slow shuffle of disembarking began.
normally the single file slog of deplaning with all of the first-class senior citizens taking their sweet time was something of a bore and a chore to tim but this time for some reason he found himself exceptionally tired
wanting nothing more than to get home to his apartment, have a long hot shower, and then stretch out in bed.
As any traveler knows, economy class airline sleep is far from fulfilling slumber.
Yet first class will always keep you sleepy.
Shambling off of the plane, he rubbed his eyes as he looked over his shoulders for his comrades.
Amanda was already nose-deep in her phone, ordering an Uber.
CJ lagged behind some half-dozen other passengers, his own face an avatar of exhaustion.
Neither Dan nor Kenny seemed to be among them, however Tim barely had the energy or presence of mind to question it.
The assembled airline patrons then shuffled the baggage claim after some long walks down long-term corridors.
Amanda and CJ both walked bedraggled beside Tim.
For reasons he couldn't be bothered to work out, Dan and Kenny must have gone their own separate way.
As they walked, he managed to mutter the words, I think I just want to get home, shower off, and go to bed.
The others nodded and grunted in agreement.
He was sure they would take necessary care of the other two, who, knowing Kenny and knowing Dan as well as he did, likely had enough spring in their step to have made it to baggage claim, collected their luggage, and booked rides home without even batting an eye.
However, when they arrived at baggage claim, still burned out and half asleep, neither of their friends was to be found.
nor did their absence seem to bother his remaining companions.
The buzzer rang, and a red light began to flash upon the baggage-clad conveyor belt.
Within a few minutes, Tim's luggage popped out, well before that of his friends.
He had taken that time to summon an Uber, which would be arriving momentarily much to his relief, and decided to bid his friends goodbye.
