Yet as his legs carried him forward, the sensation of creeping and domineering darkness behind him felt further and further upon his heels.
Soon it felt like each step was one in which only the balls of his feet or his very tiptoes were able to make any kind of contact with any kind of road.
He was running out of time, space, and options.
Then, as he approached, seeing the location of the nightclub from whence he had made his living, he stopped, dead in his tracks.
No point in moving forward any more, I guess, he thought to himself, looking down to see an empty storefront on a barren and desolate Dust Bowl street where once his place of work and many other thriving businesses had been.
It was not that they had been ended and shut down, but rather had simply never been.
He knew that now.
Yeah, end of the line, a voice said to him within his head.
It was incorporeal and hard to get a real read on, but its intent and message were clear.

Tim said aloud, watching as the sky, horizon, trees, and road in the distance all began to shrivel and shrink out of existence as an endless and deep darkness overtook it.
I suppose, it said.
You and your friends sought a chance to vacation in other worlds, and that is what you got.
You, for whatever reason, visited my plane, which used to void the absence of things.
And if you can believe it, you're kind enough to bring me back.
Now I will feast upon your reality.
I will gorge myself on your facts until there is nothing left but you.
And from there, we shall see.
