The agent looked up to him and fought to suppress his smirk.
You could have just gone around, sir, the young man replied, gesturing over to his right.
Alongside the small maze of ropes through which Dan, CJ, Amanda, and Kenny were still zigzagging along through, Tim noticed a straight portion along the edge, at the front of which was posted a sign reading, Express Lane.
Ah, Tim replied, now feeling slightly foolish.
But, yeah, now I'm keeping those up for a laugh, the agent said, seeing Tim likewise finding the humor of it.
Soon the group was checked in.
They slipped off their shoes and, stepping one by one into the body scanner, were soon cleared and let into the main terminal.
Looking to the time and realizing there was still a solid three hours until boarding, CJ and Dan wasted no time in slipping off into a restroom, their pockets stuffed with dryer sheets.
Once there, the pair would remove the cardboard tube to the toilet paper in one of the stalls, stuff it with scented dryer fabric, and take turns blowing weed slowly through it, leaving the stall hazy, albeit smelling of sweet summer rain.
Amanda and Kenny opted to go for a snack down in the food court, leaving Tim opting to take a solo adventure to the nearest bar.
Dan and CJ, while continuing to smoke endless amounts of weed, had taken many of the dietary recommendations the retreat insisted upon more seriously than at least Tim.
Avoiding excess sugars, fats, caffeine, and to an extent alcohol, their last remaining vice was such they were certain it wouldn't matter.
While Amanda kept Kenny in line for the most part, it was ultimately Tim who made no real changes to speak of.
Taking a seat at the nearly empty bar, Tim was immediately greeted by the bartender.
He was an older man in his later fifties, with salt and pepper hair and a strong square build.
He was almost cliché in his white shirt, black apron, and the off-white bar rag slung casually over his shoulder.
All he needed was a toothpick, and he'd have a hat trick, thought Tim.
I think I'll go for, I guess, a Jack and Coke, Tim said uncertainly.
You sure?
Don't sound too excited.
