This is one we sort of stumbled over, which was quite intriguing.

That –

There are different modes of work we can be in.

So sometimes we're in perform mode.

And perform mode is when you are doing work which is familiar to you.

You're good at it.

You've done it before.

You usually feel pretty confident and you're efficient at doing it.

And therefore people go, well, let's give Francesca or Lou this work because she knows how to do it.

And then you do a good job.

So you feel pretty good.

The downside of being in perform mode too much is you don't learn anything.

You're doing the same stuff you were doing a year ago.

You do a good job.

But you don't just plateau.

You actually end up getting worse.

So doctors and teachers they've studied get worse over the course of their career, not better.

And the reason is because they tend to repeat what they did the previous year.

You just offended quite a few.

That's right.
