So I was like, I was sort of amazed, but I thought, wow, that was a hard, complex situation.
But someone who studies this deeply can actually unpack it and help people deal with these situations.
So that sort of inspired me.
I did that for a long time with people around the world.
I taught it to them in all these different organizations.
And then a bit later, I got very interested in the second piece was around exhaustion because I saw some people were exhausted.
Some people were burning out.
And that's when I got into both the stress and the burnout piece.

So it happened over probably a couple of years really to get started.
But once it started moving, what I noticed was it just kept going because my brain sort of started to let go and say, hey, this is actually a better way to handle life.
One of the reasons I and others ruminate is because we think it's useful.
Like we think we are planning, we think we are preparing, we think we are solving a problem.
But once you actually get this language and this model, you start to see it doesn't do anything useful for you.
There are better strategies.
Yes, it's interesting you say that, Francesca.
Once you hear it, you're like, of course it's obvious, but in my mind, I hadn't really separated them.
So one of the things that Derek and his team worked out is most of us, when we talk about stress, we use it like a very global term.
