He really liked Sheba.

You know, Digger was the new boy on the block.

Sheba thought Digger was a pretty good-looking chimp.

Digger and Sheba were housed together.

I don't know what Digger had been doing when he was in New York, but evidently he was quite the ladies' man, I suspect.

And in fact, Sheba did, in fact, get pregnant.

And unfortunately, her infant did not live.

It died after nine days.

That was a very sad day in the lab because we were all looking forward to it.

When I saw that the baby's hands and arms were hanging away from her body, I went in and took the baby.

And she was screamed literally for three hours after that.

She was inconsolable.

Well, when the university decided to close the facility, literally there were black helicopters flying overhead.

There were police everywhere.

It was like a B-movie.

Sheba, I think because she had good, healthy rearing as an infant, and I think a good life for many years with us until the lab was closed, was very resilient, and she's done well.

I have seen Sheba since they have left.

I went to Chimp Haven several times to visit, and it always was the same.

I would hear Sheba start screaming and letting everybody else know that I was on my way across the parking lot.

So lots of excitement, lots of course recognition.
