Well, when we introduced these measures, we indicated they would be temporary, either lasting for a limited 12-month period, which was what we put in the budget forecasts, or until fuel prices had stabilised below $3.
We did get four weeks under $3.
They ticked up again last week.
Treasury, based on oil futures markets last week, said they could last above this point
for a couple of months.
As you point out, prices are now coming down again globally.
So if we see the price go under $3 in New Zealand again, which I really hope will happen, please, Donald Trump, can you assist that to happen?
Then I will bring advice back to Cabinet.
So we're keeping this under active review.
We've always intended they would be temporary.
That remains the intention.
But as Kelly Echold has said this morning, essentially where we are is being pragmatic.
We're basing our decisions on the data in front of us and it is too soon to declare sustained stabilisation.
Well, the trigger that Cabinet has agreed is if it goes under $3 again, we think that would be reason to come back to Cabinet.
At that point, we'll also have the futures data.
If you've seen the oil price come down significantly, you'd expect that to continue.
