It felt very different, actually, in the beginning.

The violence I experienced in that relationship was nothing like the violence that I experienced by my dad.
It was still kind of some weird step up, you know, like it wasn't as bad.
So then did you think, oh, well, it's not that bad.
Yeah.
And I think that was part of the mind game of it all.
You know, like I just had such a negative childhood experience of violence, like in my own home.
