So getting some more people paying for our power will actually bring the power down.
That's the frustrating thing, right?
Because we've got a certain number of people who are paying for all the stuff that needs to be built because we haven't grown our power use.
So we haven't had anyone who's paying for the new infrastructure.
So we've got to pay for the rebuild.
But if we can attract some new investment and in a planned way, we can get that investment to contribute quite a lot to that rebuild.
Well, I think the thing that Invest NZ has pointed out is we're going to have to work quite hard to attract it.
And at the moment, we send most of our data, like this phone call, for example, is going all the way to California and back again.
And so it's sitting on some sort of coal-fired plant in the middle of nowhere using lots of water.
Whereas we could have one using renewable energy, no water locally.
Why not?
But we'll have to attract it because every other country in the world sees this as an opportunity to do this.
something like $6 trillion internationally already being earmarked for building data centres over the next five years alone.
which is clean and green and doesn't cause any grief.
I'm actually not sure what the problem is.
The other thing is don't use water.
I hate hearing everyone say...
They use water.
That's an American issue with old data centers, not the new ones.
The new data centers that were built in Auckland recently use less water than an average dairy farm.
