Well, I'll start because I first watched Wimbledon when, well, I was, my first memory, I should say, was watching the epic final that my brother played with Borg in 1980 and
I was 13, maybe 14.
And I was in a motel room in Fort Worth, Texas, playing in the National Boys Hardcore Championships.
And my parents had flown over just for the final.
And I had gone to this tournament with my doubles partner from New Jersey and his coach.
So we were watching it literally from like a hotel room.
um one of those ones you drive you know you drive up to your room and there's a pool and then you just go right to your room um we were living large a true motel i always say a motel as opposed to a hotel yeah so so you know obviously the grandeur of wimbledon was was obvious to me at a young age but when i first got there was a couple of years later as a as an older teenager
um and i think what just hits you is just the the beauty of it the tradition you know the courts are so lush and especially you know chris and i are lucky enough to be there before the tournament starts which to me is always the most special every year being there the weekend before it starts and seeing the way they get the grounds ready and the courts ready and sort of the calm before the storm or the tournament but i think they they've
figured out how to combine the great tradition of tennis and the history of tennis while still modernizing the sport for the fans, for the media, for the players.
It usually takes them a little longer than the other majors to decide to make a change.
But when they do, they go all in and they do it incredibly well.
Nowhere really.
I mean, at Chris's point, I mean, that's part of what makes it so special and unique is, um,
You know, as a kid, as a junior player, I mean, there are some grass courts here in the northeast of the New York area, you know, the old time clubs, which are usually for the ultra wealthy.
Once in a while, they'd let my brother and I come and practice on them.
If John didn't piss him off, which, you know, he usually did at some point.
But, you know, Forest Hills, of course, we grew up going to Forest Hills, which was close to where we grew up in Douglaston in Queens, New York.
Um, so there is, um, you know, where you first had the U S open fork moved to flushing and they had it on grass for a while before it switched, believe it or not to hard true to clay for a couple of years before it went to flushing.
But, uh, so there's not that many places in the grass in England, particularly in Wimbledon is really unique.
Um, it's so well taken care of, um, it's mowed diligently.
