Well, I just did.

Tonight, we have a very special guest.

I've been super excited about this episode because I've been trying to get him to come on the podcast for months and months.

This is my college roommate, Thompson Neeland.

And you say, Paul, what are you talking about?

You're a college roommate.

What does that have to do with Woodworking's bullshit?

Well...

After earning an engineering degree, when we were roommates, in electrical engineering no less, he became a professional upright bass jazz player.

eventually moving to New York City and pursuing his dreams of being a full-time jazz musician for more than 20 years.

An absolute beast of a jazz musician, releasing five of his own albums and appearing on more than 60 recordings as composer, leader, or sideman.

Now, more than that though, of course I find that dazzlingly impressive because I tried to be a jazz musician for a small period of time and failed miserably.

But more than that, Thompson is one of my favorite thinkers.

I would describe him as insatiably curious, deeply philosophical, and wildly open and appreciative to whatever life has in store for him.

When we catch up on the phone is like drinking from a fire hydrant of ideas and life.
