I didn't hurl with Derek, but Derek, when he was over me in terms of his selector around 2014-15, around that time,
um and he was like he's a fantastic person in the dressing room i didn't have him as manager but had him on selector and he's fantastic you could tell after the game he obviously took it very hard which is understandable because so he's pouring his whole life into this and people don't realize how much time goes into it there's not one person who will make a comment about derrick ling over the weekend who's actually walked in the shoes of an inter-county manager i could look at him cal over the weekend those boys are putting in hours that any critic who give out about them they have no idea they
They have absolutely no idea of the hours those lads put in.
So first of all, as a Kilkenny supporter, never mind the pundit here, Anton, the first thing I think about is giving boys space to decide what is it that they're going to do, what do they want to do, because what they'll always do is the best thing.
They'll always do what's best for them.
But for Kilkenny at the moment, it's really a case of,
okay, well, where are we as a county in terms of hurling?
You know, it's fantastic that we have young fellas walking down the town with hurls in their hand.
And in fairness, every young, not say every young, but so many young boys and girls around Kilkenny are immersed in hurling.
Like, it's all people talk about.
But how that's all being put together, like I'd even touch on a little bit, like Skechel might even,
agree with this or maybe not.
But for so many years when I was growing up and I was underage, we were looking at Galway teams winning minor All-Irelands on the trot or under-21s.
And for a while, that just didn't convert.
And you kind of have to ask yourself, and Galway did ask themselves, why isn't this converting?
Because on paper, that should convert.
But now Kilkenny's in a situation where
We're not, like, you know, our minors let go a huge lead against Galway, 12 points, I think it was, and then lose an extra time.
Our 20s really didn't get in striking distance.
Now, that's a great under-20 Galway team as well when you have the likes of Rabbit.
