You know, he often spoke about this great opportunity and, you know, this unbelievable opportunity.

And as he put it, he'd been so lucky.

Of course, it wasn't luck, you know, to win this competition.

So, I mean, their names obviously would have been in the design architectural press.

It kickstarted two things.

So his longstanding friend and colleague, Peter Morrow, who had been designing exhibitions for Peter Morrow, happened to be one of the architects of the Royal Festival Hall for the Festival of Britain.

and he needed somebody to design the furniture.

So, of course, Robin Day would have been a great choice, not only because he completely believed in him, but I guess because he would have had credibility from winning the MoMA competition.

And so Royal Festival Hall furniture and the Festival of Britain was one huge part of it.

The other thing it led to was that this British furniture company, Hilly, which had specialised in making high-quality reproduction furniture...

The younger generation, Rosamund and Leslie Julis, had this real vision that they needed to get into modern, this modern thing, modern furniture that was happening in the United States.

Ah, and yes, look, there's an English guy, you know, who's won a prize at MoMA, the MoMA competition.

We must get him on board.

And so they invited Robin and Clive Latimer to design room suites for them.

And that was the beginning of my father's collaboration with Hilly, which of course led to

you know, 30 years with the Hilly family, incredibly fruitful collaboration, and most of his mature furniture design was for Hilly.

So it was really two things.

The MoMA exhibition led to both those things.

It was the Festival of Britain.

I mean, she wasn't involved in the Royal Festival Hall, except, as she said in a lovely late interview with Peter Morrow's daughter, that her job was to sit on the chairs and try them out.
