It was just a sense like that's the most important thing.
Whatever's happening in the world is the most important thing that you ought to be paying attention to out there.

It was a great upbringing with great parents and a good neighborhood and good friends.
You know, I felt both a sense of belonging and a sense of being an outsider kind of at the same time.

Lady on the corner was a nurse, and I'd see her walk down to the night shift at the hospital a couple blocks away every day.
And I felt like the texture of that neighborhood like really belonged to me.
But at the same time, like I also felt and knew that I was like – I was different.
Like this was before it was like trendy to drink espresso, for example.
That was like a weird immigrant thing that my dad did.
You know, like he had this little thing you would put on the stove and make espresso.
Yeah.
And I remember them being kind of bewildered when like Starbucks became a thing, you know.
And then the surroundings of it all, the city of South Bend, which people know that the University of Notre Dame is there.
But the other thing that was there was Studebaker.
