And then he had an arrangement done by this guy, Richard Hewson.
who I recommended to do the James Taylor album, who was a friend of mine who was a jazz musician and classical conductor.
So he wrote the arrangement for Those Were the Days and Paul produced the record.
Danny Corchmar, or Cooch as we called him at the time, and still do.
I was in a band.
Well, when Gordon and I toured America, we were given a backup band, often a different band in different territories.
Somebody was booking the Northeast.
He was in one of our backup bands called the King Bees.
The Kingleys were good.
Cooch was great.
He was a big Steve Cropper fan.
I loved his guitar playing.
He and I became great friends, and that friendship extended beyond the Peter and Gordon era.
We stayed in touch.
So Cooch was subsequently in a band called The Flying Machine in New York with his childhood friend, James Taylor.
Exactly.
They were friends going all the way back to Martha's Vineyard when they were 13, 14.
So when the flying machine broke up, that's the flying machine in pieces on the ground as in the song, Cooch said to James, well, if you're going to London, James intended to go to London because he had a girlfriend over there he thought he could stay with.
Turned out he couldn't.
